My ancestor was Henry Brien of Gargadis, Kilskeery Parish, Co. Tyrone, and
I’m descended from his son Robert Brien. Henry married a second time to
Mary, and his children by that marriage are buried at the old graveyard in
Tullanaglug, Magheraculmoney. I was given the following inscription by a
friend who is researching her Brien family in Aghaleague, Magheraculmoney.
Her ancestor was also named Francis Brien.

This stone was erected by Francis Brien of Gargada in memory of his sister
Margaret Brien who departed this life the …. The 25th 1805 aged 19 years.
Also his sister …. Gorr .. ? who departed this life Feb ? the 15th 1815
aged 24 years. Here lieth the body of the above Francis Brien who departed
this life …. 10th 181.. aged 32 ? years.

My ancestor’s half brother Francis Brien was baptised in Kilskeery on 14 Jan
1788 and his sister Jane on 23 April 1791. There is no baptism for an elder
sister Margaret, and there is no second marriage for Henry Brien in the
Kilskeery records. It may well be that Henry lived in Co. Fermanagh for a
few years after Feb. 1783 when his wife Rebecca died, and before 1788 when
his son Francis was baptised. We think there must be a link between the
Aghaleague Briens and the Gargadis Briens.

I thought I would contribute something to the list, some names from the
Archdall Estate papers, names that I transcribed a few years ago.
