Hello, Frank!

My name is Diane Shaw. I am researching the McGOLDRICK family who lived in Drumkeeran, Fermanagh and in Templecarne, Pettigo, Donegal.

I have traced our family to the marriage of Charles McGOLDRICK and Margaret SHIELS. They lived in the parish of Drumkeeran, Fermanagh in the late 1700's and early 1800's. I believe that some of this family also lived on Boa Island. This family began to migrate to Quebec, Canada as early as 1810. John McGOLDRICK, son of Charles married Mary O'CONNOR in Ireland and they lived in Pettigo on the Donegal side, in the parish of Templecarn in the late 1700's and some of them still live there. John was a butcher and most of his sons practiced that trade.

The names Thomas and Ellen are not frequent in this family. Other Fermanagh surnames in the McGOLDRICK family that I am studying are: McHUGH, CORRIGAN, SHIELS, O'CONNOR, FLEMMING, CONNOLLY.

Common male names in this family: Charles, John, Patrick, William, George, Bernard
Common female names: Margaret, Isabella, Ellen, Ann and the ever popular Mary.

Good luck, Frank. E-mail me off list if you have any questions or want more info.
Diane

To anyone out there!

I have just started to search my relatives from Co Fermanagh. My
information so far , is as follows:

My gg grandfather's (Thomas Morton b 1847 Ireland) daughter Catherine Morton
b 1870 High St in Glasgow, married Owen Sheridan in Glasgow in 1893.Owen's
parents were :

John Sheridan b 1816? Probably Fermanagh. He was a sawyer journeyman just
like his father before him. His parents were Michael Sheridan b 1790s
Ireland a sawyer journeyman and Ann Kean b 1790s Ireland.

This John Sheridan b 1816? was married to Ellen/Helen McGorlick, McGourlick,
Mc Goldrick etc( I have encountered all the possibilities!) who was born in
1823 in Co Fermanagh. This couple married in Pettigo on the 20 of July
1865. So I presume this was the home town of the bride. Ellen McGorlick had
been married previously to William Monaghan, a farmer in 1850-53 in Co
Fermanagh? Ellen McGorlick's parents were:

Thomas McGoldrick b 1790s Ireland a farmer and Ann Mulroon/Mulrine b 1790s
Ireland.

John Sheridan and Ellen McGorlick were in Scotland around 1866 when their
first son Thomas was born in Dalkeith near Edinburgh. They were eventually
in Glasgow for the remainder of their lives. He died in 1876 And she died in
1891.

In 1881 Ellen McGorlick had with her in Glasgow 2 of her children by
William Monaghan, Patrick Monaghan born in Co Fermanagh on the 23 of March
1853 and Bridget Monaghan b on the first of Feb 1858?. No doubt there were
other children all born in Co Fermanagh.

I have discovered evidence of possible relatives of McGorlick and Sheridan
families living in Glasgow from the 1840s in the Saltmarket area near the
Clyde.

Hope you will reply

Frank Morton in Glasgow
