Has he got the marriage and death record from Australia (if in Queensland?)
I did so for my ancestor's brother who emigrated there from England, and
both records gave his exact place of birth, not just the county. Same for
the birth records of the kiddies - they gave father's place of birth.

Australian records are pricey to this American, but they were worth it when
I got them.

Hello John.

This is an ON-LIST reply.

And a P.S. to fellow Fer-Gold list-members: John and I have corresponded
privately; where he informed me that he is housebound, so is unable to do
any research away from his computer. Any help which any of you might be able

to provide to him with this family of his, would, I know, be GREATLY
appreciated. Thanks. Ray.

I just looked at a quick INDEX to the Griffiths Valuation of Ireland, on
this site:
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php

I input the surname of SHERRY (ignoring all possible variant spellings like
CHERRY, SHERREY, SHARRY, etc.) and also selected to search only in county
Fermanagh (under the Ulster sub-heading).

This gave a LOT of results for SHERRY and McSHERRY in Fermanagh, showing the

relevant PARISHES for each one.

Interestingly, I then tried the same search for McCabe, and got NO results
at all. Maybe I did something wrong. You might like to try it for yourself.

What I was trying to do, was to find the PARISHES in Fermanagh where there
were both McCABEs and SHERRYs; in the hope that your SHERRY and McCABE
people both lived in the same parish.

Anyway, perhaps by following those SHERRY leads, it might get you somewhere.

Another approach which you might try, is to use the www.askaboutireland.ie
website at this URL:
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

to do the SHERRY search again.

Interestingly, when I did this SHERRY search, limitiing it again to county
Fermanagh, it brought up results which included a McCABE. (sheesh!!!). I
did not look deeper into the results, but it would seem that this Hannah
McCABE was a sub-tenant to a McCABE -- which you should probably find when
you do look into the results. This entry was for the Parish of AGHAVEA --

so perhaps some list members might have deeper knowledge of this parish to
be able to help you with.

I wonder if Elizabeth SHERRY or her sister Sarah McCABE (nee SHERRY) might
have named any daughters "Hannah"?

If so, and IF they used the Irish naming-pattern, then it would be expected
that in each case their eldest daughter would be named after their mother.
That is: Elizabeth and Sarah (and any other sisters) would all be expected
to call their eldest daughter the same name! (IF they were using the Irish
naming sytem, that is).

Well, well, well: SURPRISE! I just re-did the search at askaboutireland,
this time for McCABE in Fermanagh, and got 86 hits.
So I don't understand why Failte-Romhat keeps telling me that there are no
McCABEs in Fermanagh's Griffiths index. grrrrr...

So this means that you now have a LOT more work to do, looking at all of
those results.

Rather you than me. haha.

Now, just because your family migrated from Ireland BEFORE the date of the
Griffiths Valuation (in the 1860s sometime -- others more precise on this
list will give you the exact year, I hope), that does not mean that you
ignore Griffiths, as they most probably had other family left behind.

I hope that this might help you, and not be too confusing.

Keep Well.
