Greetings.

My name is Treacy Kiley. I have very recently begun compiling a family
history for my sons (currently 2 and 4) and am a complete novice to the
craft. I joined your list because my gg grandfather, James Beggan(s) and gg
grandmother Anne Tierney are from the area near Lisnaskea and Newtownbutler.
I have been following with great interest all of the helpful posts on your
board. You have a wonderful community here.

I am seeking information the group may have regarding my gg grandparents’
families as well as suggestions for further research. To date my research
has been exclusively online. I live just outside of Boston, Massachusetts
and make frequent trips to NJ to visit family. Additionally, my brother has
recently relocated back to Jersey City where our family emigrated to
originally and is eager to assist with research missions.

Here are some key pieces of information I have gathered to date:

James Beggan

b. about 1834 near Newtownbutler/Lisnaskea

m. June 6, 1862 near Lisnaskea, Anne Tierney

d. December 21, 1895, Jersey City, NJ

Anne Tierney

b. about 1843 near Newtownbutler/Lisnaskea

d. June 2, 1920, Jersey City, NJ

I have not seen an actual copy of the marriage record for James & Anne but
have found it included in various transcriptions online all with the James
and Anne’s names and the date consistent but with some variation in
witnesses listed. I do know my gg grandmother, Anne’s full name from my
grandmother.

Children Born in/near Lisnaskea

John J, November 1, 1864

Anne, February 15, 1868

Mary, Birth Registration in 1869

Terence Francis, November 1, 1872

James, Birth Registration in 1876

Patrick, March 2, 1876 ***This record includes a potential additional clue.
It lists the more detailed location of Boneil which I’m assuming is Bunneil.

All of the dates for these births are taken from LDS abstracts online from
Ireland Births & Baptisms, 1620-1881, except for Mary and James for whom I
have located possible abstracts (absent the parents’ and actual birth dates)
in the LDS Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958. I have the film numbers
for all of these birth records ready to order once the FHCs open again this
month. I’m hoping to verify what’s been included in the abstracts and maybe
find some additional details in the actual films. I’m curious about the
dates as I found this old post online which has the dates slightly
different:

I’m not sure whether to take this to indicate that the abstracts are
mis-transcribed or if perhaps there are alternate records out there.

Children Born in Jersey City

Sarah, June 1882 (date from 1900 Census)

Philip, August 1885 (date from 1900 Census)

Emigration

James & Anne immigrated with their first six children to Jersey City, NJ via
the Port of New York arriving on the City of Brussels on January 12, 1880.

US Residence

I was able to pick the family up in Jersey City in the 1880 US Federal
Census, enumerated in June of 1880 and follow them through to 1930. They
remained in Jersey City through that period and until the 1940’s when my
grandparents were married and moved with both of their parents to
Belleville, NJ.

Beggan in Griffith’s Valuation & Tithe Applotment

I have mapped the entries I found for Beggan (and a few James (Jas)
Tierneys) in the area around Lisnaskea & Newtownbutler.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=200315468661639575849.0004a809458961406aa73&msa=0
There are plenty of likely relatives here but I have not been able to
establish a documented connection between my family and any of these listed.

Any assistance or guidance the group can provide would be greatly
appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
