Treacy,
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. You are lucky to have been able to spend so much time with her.
I exchanged a few photos with your cousin out west. The photo he sent me has your grandmother Kathryn Feeney in it. I had asked him if he had a photo of James Beggan, and although he thought he had, it turned out not to be so. So if you have any of James' vintage, we could exchange if you wish.
Your cousin does have a lot of family information, and if I understand his notes correctly, your grandmother came from Terence Beggan.
I will send you your cousin's address off-line. He replies very promptly and actually, this year he spent some of his July holidays in NJ.
Feel free with any questions you have.
James

Many thanks to all of you for the helpful resources and encouragement. I am
overwhelmed with gratitude and eager to start piecing this all together.
Pat, one of the abstracts for Sarah's baptism confirmed for me the family
parish in Jersey City which is the same I believe my grandmother was married
in much later in the 40's. This will surely help me streamline inquiries as
I seek various records for that time period.
Ray, I hadn't seen Boyd Gray's guide before. I read through most of it this
morning and was interested to read about the Griffith's Valuation Revisions.
I've already located a copy in the town library next to mine and look
forward to tapping into this source soon.
James, all of the detailed information you have shared is terrific. I
hadn't located any record of Thomas, however the scenario you describe is
consistent with stories from my grandmother. I had been on the lookout for
this son but hadn't found him (or obviously his family). I would love to
know more about the sources you have for all of this wonderful detail.
I am not in touch with anyone out west, but suspect it may be someone I saw
had posted on a few forums some years back and identified himself as the
great grandson of Phillip Augustus. I had tried to email him at the old
email addresses in those posts but suspect the addresses are out of date. I
would love to be in touch. If this is the same person, he clearly had
details about my family, including the address of the house where my
grandmother was born in Jersey City. I'm still digesting what you have sent
and will follow up with any questions.
Lastly, I wanted to let you know that all of your kind assistance is a
welcome salve on what turns out to be a very sad day. My grandmother,
Katherine Feeney, nee Beggans passed away this morning just shy of what
would have been her 95th birthday this coming October. She was very
precious to me; I spent a good deal of time in her calm and constant company
as a child and will miss her sorely. I'm hoping that sharing the family
history I am able to compile with my family will make a small but fitting
tribute to her memory.
Warm regards,
Treacy
