Hi Dorothy,
Your point is VERY well made, regarding Jay's Ahnentafel
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~jac/cmc/AT_IDX/IDX001.HTM
Well, why not let's strike out on a different tact and strive after
excellence? Let's each do our own Ahnentafel. They are so simple.
Only the name is scarey. And we don't even need any elaborate program.
I'll suggest a page for any who may want it on "How to make your own
Ahnentafel". (http://john.rootsweb.com/Rhymes/ahn-how2.html)
It's merely a table of ancestors. If we each did our own, it would show
us how we are kin, as a standard form it's simple to use, and it makes
it easy for us to relate to each other.
Mine is at http://john.rootsweb.com/Rhymes/ahnentafel.html and my
closest FitzRandolph ancestor is number 53 which tells us right off that
she's my 3g grandmother.
We could each work on our own lines to make them as complete as
possible, and by linking to each other, we could have one of the best
genealogies on the Internet.
Join me?
Regards,
John

Most of those great long lists of ancestors that appear on the web sites provide only clues, but this genealogist provides the information needed for others to make an intelligent judgment about the accuracy of the work. Considering the number of persons in this list of ancestors, 600 or so sources is a reasonable number.
