I fished the lake with my dad way back in the late 20' and early 30', I
seem to recall that the lake was named in the memory of a poplar pocitical
figure. However, this may just be a vague childhood memory.

There are families living in the Sampson City area that might be able to
help you with this problem. Surnames from the Sampson City area to contact
would be: Wynn, Smith, Kite, Brown, Warren and Driggers.

The Stump sisters in Starke would also be another source of information.
They own the Stump's store at the corner of hwy 100 and U S 301 in Starke.
They should be listed in the phone book for Starke.

Please let me know how the lake got its name, when you find the information.
