Subject: [FLCALHOU] Story of an Ayers/Whitfield Cemetery??
Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 16:23:18 EDT

Hi--

Here is a story I was recently told in my search for my Whitfield line.

The was at one time a Whitfield family who settled on the Chipola River.
They buried a number of their family members nearby (no markers) on the
property. Across the river was a family of Ayers (one of whom fought in the
Indian Wars and also one of them married Frances Whitfield). For whatever
reason the two families swapped places and the Ayers began to bury their
family members in the cemetery began by the Whitfields...supposedly there are
markers for some of these.

Can anyone tell me the identity of these two families, or tell me anything
further regarding this story? Is the Ayers Cemetery listed on the Calhoun
County website the one mentioned in this story?

I would appreciate any information.
