Subject: [FLDUVAL] Looking for JANIS HOWELL
Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2001 22:05:34 EDT

Hello List,

The Janis Howell we are seeking attended Landon High School in Jacksonville,
Florida, probably in the 1950's. She may have lived for a time on Old
Hickory. Below is some additional information that may be familiar to her.
If she is known to this list, please contact us at the below listed email
addresses.

Thank you,
Karen Foster Montgomery

"The schooner Juan Sebastian de Elcano, Spanish Navy training Ship, between
May 3rd and 8th, 1957, made a visit to Jacksonville, one of the ten Ports of
Call in her eleven-month training cruise around North and South America. On
board, around 100 midshipmen received instruction in their 4th year of their
career.

During those days a group of girls of a Jacksonville high school, Landon,
made the life of the midshipmen easier and happier, taking them home for
lunch and dinner, to school dances, to the swimming pools, etc., making the
Jacksonville stay the happiest of the trip. Their beauty, kindness and how
helpful they were has never been forgotten by the midshipmen of Class of '53.
After 40 years is a recurring topic in every meeting.

The Spanish Naval Academy Class of '53 is nearing its Golden Anniversary and,
among other things, is planning to pay tribute to the kindness of that
Jacksonville High School group of girls, but finding them is going to be a
difficult task. "

This is a quote from an email I've recently received from Ramon. If anybody
reading this recalls that event, please contact either myself, Karen Foster
Montgomery at , or Ramon M. de Velasco, Captain, Spanish
Navy (Ret), at
