Yes, there were definitely newspapers in Gadsden County from the 1820s until 1868.
Whether any still exist, I do not know, but key articles and advertisements from newspapers of this period were often picked up and run by other newspapers (much as newspapers today use stories from the Associated Press).
I have run across numerous articles from Gadsden County newspapers printed in other papers of this era, including the Pensacola Gazette, Tallahassee Floridian and Augusta Chronicle.
You can search the Augusta Chronicle collection from the 1830s through 1868 online by going to www.augustaarchives.com. There is a small subscription fee. Once you are registered, simply go into the search function and enter terms that are of interest (for example: Quincy, Chattahoochee, Gadsden County, etc.).
There also are microfilm collections of Florida's historic newspapers at the Florida State Library in Tallahassee and the Florida Historical Society in Gainesville.
Best,

Did Gadsden have a newspaper from 1805 till 1868? Was it actively printing during those years?
