I am sorry; I didn't give enough information on the first post.
I am looking for any information on William Rawls and his wife
Amelia. I have an 1840 Middle Territory Census which also states that
it is Gadsden, Florida Territory which has William Rawls age 79, but
it doesn't have any other of his family listed. I have a latter
census that lists his brother Labon Rawls and other Rawls, but
nothing on William Rawls. I assume that he died and is buried in
Gadsden Territory.
Thanks,
Joe

WILLIAM RAWLS was one of three brothers who fought in the revolutionary war.
In 1776 or 1777, William, served in the milita during the
Revolutionary War as a substitute of John.
William was young when his family migrated to and settled in Beaufort
District, South Carolina before 1776.
In the summer of 1776 or 1777, William Rawls served as a private,
substituting for his father, during the Revolutionary War. He served
under Captain John Garvin, Colonel Garder and General Bruce from 19
June 1779 to 5 June 1781 along with his brother John and Cotton. He
served under General Lincoln, and was with Sumter at Sumter's Defeat.
He was in the battle of Kings Mountain under Colonel Williams. At
sometime, he was under Captain Terrel and Colonel Hammond and at
another time he was
under Captain McCoy.
In 1781, William and Cotton Rawls concealed wounded soldiers in
Coosawhatchie Swamp in South Carolina. William Rawles appears on a
list of Revolutionary Claims filed in South Carolina between August
20, 1783 and August 31, 1786. His returns are filed under numbers 57,
58 and 86. Shortly thereafter, William settled in Effingham County,
Georgia, the part of which became part of Screven County in 1793.
In the First Georgia Land Lottery of 1805, William Rawles, a resident
of Screven County, made one blank draw and one full draw.
In 1805, William Rawls received a Grant of 500 acres of land in
Screven County, Georgia; recorded in Grant Book F-5, page 185.
In 1807, William Rawls received additional grants of 200 and 150
acres of land in Screven County, Georgia; recorded in Grant Book G-5, page 132.
In 1827, William Rawls, a Revolutionary Soldier, drew land in the Land Lottery.
After the opening of the Florida Territory, William migrated to that region.
On November 7, 1832, William Rawls, a resident of Gadsden County,
Florida, appeared in the Superior Court of the Middle District of
Florida to file an application for a pension as a veteran of the
Revolutionary War.
