Is there NO chance that John R Long died or left and she remarried the Jackson M Brown?
Maybe Jackson Brown was running from Long?

Have you checked the Ft. Smith Criminal Case Files, 1866-1900 ?
There are several cases involving John Longs'. Ancestry has the indexes but you can access them for free here:

I looked up Jackson Brown in the History of Levy Co books. I only found one in the books listing marriages - Jackson Brown married Parthenia D. Hicks on 30 Jul 1882. Don't know if this is the one you are looking for.

Hope it helps

Thank you for looking in the History of Levy County Books. I have
been wondering if there was any information in a county history about
our John R. Long known as Jackson M. Brown in Florida. He was
married in Erath county, Texas. I believe this was probably another
Jackson Brown.

That is rather interesting. I have quite a it of information on Longs but
never come scross anything like that. I have seen people change their names
often but they usually keep some semblance of their original name. At least
an initial.
Do you have any other information on Long when he was in Alabama or Texas?
I will go through my info on LONGS and see if anything stands out.
If you have not already done so you might want to check the Alachua County
Florida Ancient records as there are several deed transaction with a Jacskon
(sometimes M) Brown from Levyville therein.
I am not sure this IS your Jackson M Brown as there are 3 Jackson Browns in
the 1880 Alachua County census.
I looked on the Levy Books, "Seach for Yesterday" and found a marriage
record for Jackson Brown andd Parthenia Hicks July 30, 1882 so we know there is at
LEAST one more in Levy.

Would like any information about Jackson M. Brown, born 5 Oct 1857 in
Alabama, died 1 Nov 1919, buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Levy County,
FL. He married Rosetta Iris McKinney on 11 July 1886 in Erath
County, Texas. When Jackson M. Brown was married, he used the name
of John R. Long. Tradition shows that John R. Long started using the
name Jackson M. Brown when he moved from Texas to Florida about
1889-1890. He lived in/near Trenton, FL. I do not know in what state,
Brown/Long died.

I can trace Rosetta Iris McKinney, the woman Long/Brown married, to
Jamestown, VA. As to John R. Long/Jackson M. Brown, I have a copy of
the wedding record for John R. Long and Rosetta I. McKinney. They
were married in Erath county, TX. I have a copy of the Rosetta's
Grandfather Samuel Guy Warford's Bible family pages that shows the
marriage date to have been 11 July 1886, birth of first child John D.
Long on 18 Sep 1887. I have the 1900, 1910 census in Alachua County,
FL which shows the family. By 1900, the family was all using the
Brown surname. Only on these censuses do I know that Long/Brown was
born in Alabama. Some of the direct descendants of this couple say
that Long/Brown was being chased by someone in Texas. This was the
reason for changing the surname. The WWI Draft card shows John Daniel
Brown born on 18 Sep 1887 in Erath County, TX. I have information
about the daughters of this family too.
