Hi....I looked up a few things on the Rice family, here in
Sanford. Peter Schaal's book, "Sanford & the WWII Years" has small snippet's
of things that were in the newspaper, during WWII.....on April 25, 1938,
it says: "Captain Ed Rice transported a large group of tourists to Lemon
Bluff on the "Charuth"....so the name of the boat he captained, would be
the "Charuth". I also found him listed in the 1917-18 Civilian Draft Registration:
"Charles Edward Rice, born: April 6, 1887 in Palatka, FL", registed for
the Draft in Seminole County in 1918. He along with his wife, Hilma L.
Rice are buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Sanford. There is also a "Alberta
D. Rice" buried there. In Lakeview Cemetery which is just across a little
dirt road, there is a John A. Rice buried there. If you call the Park's
Dept. at (407)330-5687, they have about 90% of all burials on a card file,
and they will look up the names for you, over the phone, and tell you what
is on the card. Sometimes it is just the "location and plot numbers" at
the cemetery, but some have dates of death on the cards. Try checking with
them for the names above, there may be a connection with the other 2 Rice
names, if they are buried close together.
