Dear Lorene,

I don't have any records of a John Fort in my direct line. I doubt that he
would have been descended from Benjamin Fort the Revolutionary, because
Benjamin and (I think) his entire family moved to Tyler County, (West)
Virginia about 1800, on to Ohio about 1825, and were in Indiana in 1830. It
is possible that John could have doubled back, but that was certainly not
typical.

I have some notes compiled by other members of the Fort clan which are of
unknown accuracy. They do mention two John Forts. I will just give the male
lineages with whatever dates and places they have.

1. Joseph H. Fort b. NJ 9/11/1777
John Fort b. ~1800

I don't have any more information on this line. Joseph had five other sons.
Joseph moved with Benjamin to Tyler Co.

2. James Fort b. NJ 4/25/1780, d. Cambridge City, IN 1850
Cephas Fort b. NJ 2/11/1801, d. Fortville, IN 2/22/1869
John Fort b. Fortville, IN ~1835

James had 6 sons also. Benjamin (b. 1803) did not have a son named John.
Bartholomew (b. 1808), Rickey (b. 1808) were old enough to have a son born
in 1830, but I do not have any information on their lines.

Benjamin had at least two younger sons (Francis and Bartholomew). I don't
have a listing for a John among their sons. It is possible that they might
have a grandson John, but most of their grandchildren would probably have
been born after 1830.
