Dear Fortson Family Members:
It is with deepest regret that I announce to you the death of Yvonne "Nunkie" Fortson Mitchell, who died on Jan.10,2002 aged 55. She was born in Philadelphia on Oct.30,1946 to the late Thomas S.Fortson, Sr. and Charlotte Turpin Fortson.She formerly worked at Glassboro State College, now Rowan Univ and served as pianist,organist, and choir director at the First Bapist Church of Jericho in Deptford, N.J. Funeral Services were held Jan. 15,2002 at the First Baptist Church of Jericho. She is survived by husband, Ronald "Fang" Mitchell, basketball coach of Coppin State in Baltimore;3 daughters:Crystal Bates of West Deptford,Wendy Weir of Jersey City, and Vania Mitchell of Md.;and son, Russell Jackson, Jr. of Greenville, SC.;5 stepchildren, and 4 grandchildren;2 brothers, Dr. Thomas S. Fortson,Jr. of Denver, Co. and Gary L. Fortson of Deptford;and a sister, Sheila Allen of Deptford. Here is a brief family tree:
