I have done some research since I listed my name with you. I do not find
that Chisholm Fortune had land, but he did sign as a witness in several
transactions. He married daughter of Thornton Gibson first (1805), then
another Gibson. At the same time there was an Elijah Fortune in Louisa
County. Any connection? Lavinia Fortune, his daughter, married Alfred
Smith, son of David Smith, in 1830 and their first son was Thomas Smith.
There was a Thomas Fortune in the area. A David Chisholm bought land in
Louisia County in the early 1830s. Possible connection? I keep trying.
