The Coppage-Coppedge Family Maxim/Manham, "Mathew Rodham was apparently a
younger son, contributed by his mother to Lord Baltimore's experiment." It
is known from various early MD records that Matthew's passage to MD was
paid by others and that he served six years as a servant to Lord Calvert.
He may have been the son of Edmund and a younger brother to John Roddam(b.
1614), the heir to Roddam. However, a search of available Northumberland
Parish Records failed to reveal a list of Edmond's children. The Ancestry
of Edmond Roddam is given back to 1296 in Burke's LAND GENTRY, 1939
Edition. p. 1934, and includes Sir John Roddam who was killed at the Battle
of Towton in 1461 during the Wars of the Roses, and Edmond's father,
Robert, who was persecuted for his "Papist" (Catholic) beliefs.

Matthew married (1) Elizabeth HEWITT, daughter of Robert HUETT and
Hannah(?) about 1648 in Kent Island, Maryland. Elizabeth was born about
1619 in Northumberland, Virginia. She died about 1674 in Northumberland,
Virginia.
