Hi All,

I have a link on The Tombstone Project page to the article entitled
"Death of a Cemetery". The article shocked and saddened me as it did
most who read it. Interestingly, I had a note from an archeologist
concerning this article and I am going to cut and paste in some of what
he said. He makes a good point, and his statements made me feel a lot
better.

<snip>
This newspaper article is VERY one sided and does not even come close to

telling the real story of what happened. The developers were going to
destroy this
cemetery but the archaeologists fought to have it excavated and recorded
before it was
obliterated. There was no stopping the multi-million dollar
development, and history was in the way. The archaeologists are the
heroes here, and have saved the inforamtion (and the bodies and stones)
for future generations. No, not in the original place (which had
been long forgotten and abandoned) but at least it was saved in some
way. Although I
have been studying cemeteries for years I have never dug one but the
inforamtion
gained from this dig will be very helpful to my work and the work of
others who are trying to save cemeteries all across the country>
