Here's a different John L. Foster who married in Missouri in 1832 and lived
for a long period in St. Charles/Lincoln Co., Missouri before moving to
Bastrop Co., TX.
Does anyone recognize him?

HUSBAND NOTES: John L. FOSTER
General:
John L. Foster was born in 1797 in South Carolina.
In 1820, John and James Foster appear in the census of Howard County,
Missouri.
By 1830 they are in Lincoln County, Missouri.
On December 27, 1823, in St. Charles Co., Missouri. John married Ann Miller,
daughter of Andrew Miller of North Carolina. They resided in Lincoln Co.,
Missouri until about 1840.
In December of 1835 he was left the estate of a John Shirley of Lincoln Co.,
Missouri
John Foster appears on the 1846 tax list of Bastrop County, Texas.
According to land records, John Foster patented 640 acres of land on 30 Jan
1850
in Bastrop and Lee Counties. This record indicated he arrived after 1 Oct
1837
and before 1 Jan 1840. It is believed he arrived in January of 1838 with his
brother, James.
At least four children, and probably others, were born to John and Ann
Foster:
Sarah b. 1825 in Missouri married James F. Houston about 1843 in Texas.
Elizabeth A. Foster was born in 1834 in Missouri and married James W. Kennedy

Jan 1854 in Bastrop County. Lucinda Catherine was born in 1836 in Missouri
and
married William Highsmith on 25 Jan 1853 in Bastrop County. Son, George M.
Foster was born in 1846 in Texas.
Ann Foster apparently died about 1855 near the age of 50. John married a
second
time to Sarah Varden on 5 Oct 1856 in Bastrop County, Texas. Together they
had
a son Charles M. Foster born in 1857 in Bastrop County. Sarah died previous
to
1862 when John L. Foster married for the third time to Ann Middleton on 24
Jul
1862 in Bastrop County.
John L. Foster appears as the Postmaster in Alum Creek, Bastrop County, Texas
in
1862.
The heirs of John Foster patented 464 acres of land on 19 Apr 1870 in Bastrop
County.
John Foster died 17 Feb 1872 in Bastrop County and is buried in Bastrop
Cemetery.
