Subject: [FOUTS] PML Explanation (Personal Mailing List)
Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 15:48:59 -0500 (EST)
There have been queries lately on how to find the information listed in
the PML post excerpts I forward to the list. I realize that it is
confusing, but am pleased that subscribers are interested.
These messages are part of the Personal Mailing List (PML) which sends me,
as a former Rootsweb Sponsor, notifications of messages and postings which
include mention of the "SURNAME". We are forbidden to forward the message
itself without written permission. I extract the relevant given names,
dates and locations from the message and forward the original sender,
date, list and subject in order to enable interested subscribers, and
present and future researchers, to find the original post by searching the
interactive or threaded archives maintained by Rootsweb. (Scroll down the
left side of the main page to searches.)
I must say that many posts of are lists and only the name is given, but
since the information is not available otherwise, I feel it is worthwhile
on the chance that name, in that place on that date, will be helpful to a
"SURNAME" researcher at some time, and that other subscriber will simply
delete the message.
If a post has a lot of data and family connections,I do ask permission to
-- but keeping the files while awaiting an answer is extremely cumbersome
-- so this is a compromise for sending posts that have only a name, date
and location.
Successful searching and if you find information I hope you will share it
with the list. If you have any questions please email me.
Regards,
Patricia
