Subject: [FOX] Fox in Greene County, PA, mid to late 1800s
Date: Wed, 5 Jan 2000 16:02:34 EST
Hello everyone,
Reposting my meager Fox info in hopes of getting through this brick wall!!
My husband's great grandfather, Lafayette Headlee b 1865 in Greene County,
PA, was born out of wedlock to Joseph Keener Headlee (b 1845) and an unknown
FOX. This "Miss Fox" was a maid in the home of Joseph Headlee's parents,
Phineas & Nancy Headlee, who lived in Perry Twp., Greene County, PA. I
assume that "Miss Fox" was rather young when Lafayette was born, so I
estimate her birth date to be around 1845-1850, probably in Greene County
also.
Joseph acknowledged Lafayette as his son but apparently did not raise him. I
can't find Lafayette with any Headlees in the 1870 or 1880 census, so it
seems he lived with his Fox mother or her family. By the time Lafayette
married in 1887 he was using the surname Headlee, but if he was raised by his
Fox relatives he may have used the Fox surname as a child. All guesses at
this point!
Does this story sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance for any help.
Gail Headlee
