Hello,
I'm from Hautes-Pyrénées (France), I live near Azereix.
In our departement, names of houses are as important as family names ; when you make a research in Hautes Pyrénées, you must take this into account.
As for your ancestor's name of house "Clotte" into "Aspie", it is very possible that your ancestor did not inherit the house he was born and married a wife who was the inheritor of another house and that he took her house's name when he got married.
In our region, it is important to know who was the inheritor of the house, always the child who was born first if he/she was not idiot.
Regards,
Sandrine Braun, Tarbes

> Well, about 6 years ago, I received some information about my ancestors from a source who I still think is a reliable one. (I have researched him and feel I can trust his genealogy work.) Anyway, at that time he taught me about the "name of the house" (Aspie), Jean Coussan\Aspie x Francoise Peyralade. Back then, I only received his gedcom file, not any copies of documents. Now another person is helping me with my research. She is actually taking pictures of the documents and sending them to me. It seems that in the testament of Jean Coussan\Aspie's father, the father is referenced as Jean Coussan\Clotte. I thought the name of the house would remain the same generation after generation. Do you have any ideas?
