Hello,
I came across your excellent website this week. I'm a descendent of
Marguerite Martin, and I'm trying to collect as much information about her
father
as possible. I am very interested in finding out why he is believed to have
spent time on Ile Sainte Croix. Was he one of the original colonists? What
evidence exists? Did he belong to the Order of Good Cheer? I've always
wondered,
what was his early relationship to Champlain? Did he work for him as a
cartographer, or just as a river pilot, or as a navigator, or was he just a
deck hand?
You read so many things about Abraham, his imprisonment, his two possible
sets
of parents, and he's claimed by lists of famous Scotsmen, but far as I know
he's French. So, could you advise me on where to find some answers for these
questions? And, do you know if he's mentioned in the "Voyages" published
journals
of Champlain? I've been looking for an edition of that, but can't find one
anywhere. It seems to have been written before anything Abraham was part of
anyway.
thanks
Jonah
