Subject: New Legislation - Augusta

Dear Friends,

Just in case that you had not received the news, the legislative hearing
for the Franco-American K-12 education bill is in a week in Augusta (see
below for details). LD 422 is the bill that I proposed and worked on
with Representative Brian Bolduc of Auburn. Brian has had great success
with the bill so far at the State House and has written a good newspaper
article about it. Unfortunately, it's generated a quantity of
anti-French hate-mail (checkout the editorial column blogs for the
major Maine online newspapers). I'm not sure where LD 357 on Acadian
history came from, but obviously Representative Jackson doesn't realize
that Acadians are Franco-Americans! At any rate, we need people to come
to the hearing and testify - lots of people. If you cannot come, please
write the committee! Also write your newspapers with
letters-to-the-editor and contact your own representatives and senators.
Please share your materials with me, too, as I'll take them to the
hearing as well. We began collecting rationale for the act, which I've
configured and attached. If you have other ideas, please share them. My
thought is that I could make a page of these arguments for the hearing
to hand out. Many thanks for your support on this. All the best, -Barry

P.S. Please forward this announcement to family, friends, & neighbors -
all are welcome!
