Thank you for your suggestion and to all the others who have contacted me with their
thoughts.
The FreeBMD project team is not over-staffed with fixers. When there is a fault two or
three people have to shoulder the work as well as maintain their day jobs/pay due
attention to their family/get ready for going on holiday...
Please remember I'm not a programmer as you read this next bit...The site is written in
straight-forward code but as far as I can tell not "directly". The following snippet from
one of Dave's messages when it was suggested that the Home Page be amended by someone may
mean far more to others than it does to me:
> I'll have to do it because the interface is also down :-(
It would seem that alterations to the site were also difficult at the time the Master
Server failed and Dave was working on the fix flat out. That there is a message at all
about the errors seems to me to be a minor miracle. But that's the past.
What can be put in place for the future remains to be debated and agreed. Your idea will,
I am sure, go into the general melting pot. My initial thought is that any access to the
site is causing problems at the moment for the slave servers, so reading any other page
might be too much, but I don't know.
Have too just picked up this mail from Bob:

We shall see, we shall see.
I'm not sure if this discussion is not better placed on the DISCUSS list, by the way, so
have posted there as well.
Best wishes
Anne
