This is my FREEMAN line from a family record book:
Jonathan FREEMAN (b. 22 Feb 1730 m. Thankful LINNEL 12 March 1752, d. 2
July 1768 Tonset, Orleans, MA)
John FREEMAN (b. 10 Nov 1761, m. Abigail HOPKINS 22 June 1784, d. July 1817)
Thomas FREEMAN (b. 6 April 1787, m. Roxanna CASH 27 Dec 1810, d. 17 Jan 1864)
Warren FREEMAN (b. 25 July 1814 Harwich, MA, m. Elisabeth WEEKES 6 June
1848, d. 16 Sept 1894)
Elisabeth Emma FREEMAN (b. 4 Sept 1851 Harwich, MA, m. Martin Edward
THOMPSON 5 July 1874 Harwich, MA, d. 4 October 1876 Harwich, MA)
I sent away for military records for Thomas, figuring at 25 he might have
served during the War of 1812. I received a file for Thomas, consisting of
a letter of recommendation for a navy pension for him dated 1816, saying he
was an old worn out sailor at age 55. This fits John's timeline. Also
enclosed was a pension certificate with Thomas crossed out and John written
next to it. The widow was not filled in, and many spaces were left blank.
John died the next year. Thomas was only 29 when the letter of
recommendation was written for him. Does anyone know this family and what
might be the mix-up? Thanks.
