Hi All!

I found this in the Jan. 20th 1999 issue of the Cameron County (PA) Echo.
They have 1/3 page column of items from the Cameron County Press from 100
years ago in every issue.

Below is some background on this FREEMAN line. The obituary follows:

"In 1817, Brewster, father of Seneca, accompanied by his family, comprising
of four sons,
Seneca, Brewster, Samuel, and Benjamin, moved to the country (Now known as
Cameron County, PA) and settled on the ground now occupied by the Wylie and
Sage Farms."

Brewster was born 27 Oct 1765 in Duxbury, MA. I have his death as 9 Dec
1823 at Dunnstown, PA.

"Footnote says: Marianne FREEMAN, who died at Richard Chadwick's house in
Rich Valley, August 11, 1888 was born in Connecticut, Jan. 17, 1807. She
came with her father, Brewster FREEMAN, to Emporium in 1817..."

"Her grandmother, Margaret Brewster FREEMAN was a great Granddaughter of
BREWSTER, who came to Plymouth Rock in 1623!

Brewster Freeman was the son of Silas and Mary (Brewster) Freeman. Silas
was born 4 Mar 1734/5 in Duxbury, MA. He married 8 Dec 1763 Mary Brewster,
born ca. 1744 in Duxbury. They lived 1767-1775 in Preston and Canterbury,
CT, then removed to Chester (formerly Murrayfield), MA in 1776. They were
still there at the time of the 1800 census. Silas died sometime between
1810 and 1820 at (Mount Pleasant?) Wayne County, PA and Mary died ca. 1820
at Wayne County, PA.

Mary's Brewster ancestry was:
Elder William(1), Love(2), William(3), Nathaniel(4), Joseph(5), Mary(6),
which makes Elder William her ggg-grandfather.

Now for the obituary:

Last Thursday Evening the sad intelligence was received here of the
death of Miss Hulhah C. FREEMAN, who succumbed to a complication of diseases
at the home of her sister at Otsego, Mich. on the afternoon of the above
date.
Miss FREEMAN was the daughter of the late Judge Seneca FREEMAN and wife
who were among the pioneers of Cameron County, coming here with the EARL'S,
CHADWICKS, SIZERS, and others when this country was a howling wilderness.
Not withstanding the limited advantages for education which the early
settlers of this section were subjected to, Miss FREEMAN acquired many
scholarly attainments, being considered a highly cultured and well read
lady, and retaining to her last day a clear, sound memory of the events of
her childhood. The deceased resided on the Portage (Creek), since the death
of her parents, on what is known as the old FREEMAN place but removed to
Otsego, with her sister Pamelia, about four months ago. The exact date of
her birth could not be learned at this writing, but as near as can be
ascertained, she was in her seventy-second year.
