Howdy Howard,
Yeah, You and I have talked before. I place that query just about every
where I can, every fews months or so. Hoping that one day one of those
Freeman's decsendants will be on line. You are the only one I've heard from.
I do know of a relative to Friend Freeman, but she's not on line anymore. I
feel sure there is some kind of connection between all those men in the
Thomas Co. GA 1830 census, just can't get a good lead.
Your Kyler in the 1830 is about the right age and he is married, then he
shows up in 1850 as Cuyler in Early Co. with wife Abygill and children. I
feel he is the same man that was in the 1830 Thomas Co. census. The census
takers had a way of spelling peoples names weird off and on. Sometimes I
wish I could dig em up and say "just look what confusion you caused".
I don't recall ever seeing a marriage record for Kyler or Cuyler, or
seeing him as head of household in a 1840 census. But then all the five men
I've mentioned in Thomas Co. seem to have mysteriously disappeared in the
1840 census. My Richard died, but his widow Elizabeeth had people in her
house that don't fit. One boy between 5-10, one man between 60-70, one man
between 20-30, and one man between 30-40. They could be her relatives or
they could be some of the ones who were in the 1830 census and disappeared
in the 1840 census.
I do know that Friend Freeman was in the Thomas Co. area as early as
1826 (he is on a jury list), and he and a Joseph Freeman had service in the
Indian Wars 1817-1818 and lived near the Ft. Hawkins area. Friend also is on
a pensioners list for service in the War of 1812 with Capt. Donnelly's GA
militia.
I have looked hi and low for any info on this group of men, but nothing
yet. The given names all suggest a connection to the William Freeman family
of Surry Co. NC. Some of those sons came to GA in the late 1790's. That's
were I've been looking hard. There was a William who came to the Wilkes/
Oglethorpe area with his brothers Josiah, Noah and Richard. I've been pretty
successfull in finding info on Josiah, Noah and Richard, but nothing
conclusive on William.
I'll keep trying and I'm glad there's some one else out there who's
looking at least in the same area. Howard we will probably end up related if
we keep digging. One more step back and we should be able to link up with
one of the bigger Freeman families of GA. Good luck with your research, and
please keep in touch. I'll be sure and let you konw if I find anything more,
keep my e address.
