Hi There,

If anyone can help with the following family research, I would really it.

My great-great-grandfather, Edward Freeman, was born in County Galway, Ireland, Feb/Mar 1827. This I gleaned from his death certificate as reported by his parish priest. He emigrated to the USA around 1847/8. His spouse was Mary Ann Powell, b. 1827, also in County Galway. Their first child, Catherine Elizabeth, was born Oct. 1, 1848 in Rochester, NY, followed by Margaret, Dec. 14, 1850, Robert Edward, 1853 and Mary Ann July 27, 1854. They then emigrated to Canada where James (my great-grandfather) was born Sept. 8, 1857. They settled in Harwood, Ontario Canada, just north of Cobourg.

Family lore is that Edward came from a well off family and was sent packing when he got the family seamstress pregnant.

Question:

Where in Galway did they come from?

Are they related to the Freemans in Dublin at the time? (some family conjecture)

I have hit a brick wall in locating the location in Galway where they came from. There is little family material from their time due to a fire mid-century and their not wanting to talk about their families back home.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.
