I agree this price hike seems to be unreasonable. It is a 450% increase over the previous price. I do not know why
this increase is justified at this level and can only speculate. It may be something close to what this administration
feels is the real cost to handle these requests, or it may be that they wanted to discourage people from putting them to
the trouble.
You might try sending a letter to the address of the SS-5 form and request a reply. Since this has been in effect for
some months now, they may have received a number of complaints. Maybe if enough people complained something would be
done. Maybe not. It wouldn't hurt to try though.
