Lynda,

Please refer to the Ancestry.com Friedman message board to see this and other posts. This was dated 12/14/01 and it contains the correct info about my Friedman family. If there is a connection please let me know.
Sincerely,
Ellen Terry Friedman

My father was Harold Julian Friedman b. 3/11/1918 Pittsburgh d. 1988 Phoenix.
He was orphaned at age 1 or 2. He Grew up in Pittsburgh with his Grandparents (I do not know which side) and moved to Calf (after 10 years of age ?) with one of his Aunts. He graduated High School in Calf. (La Brea?)
My dad was a trained Opera singer He attended Pittsburgh Music Institute and The Boston Conservatory of Music.
Harold Friedman worked in theatre and in clubs on the east coast and Canada.
Mostly: NYC and Baltimore. He used the stage name Hal Terry. He married my Mother Joan Fallon Friedman in Baltimore in 1952. We lived on Long Island growing up. My dad sold Cadillac’s for many years there and kept the name Hal Terry until after retiring.

His Mother's name (Cecilia/Cecelia/Celia) b.? Maiden Name: Brown.
d. Either 1918 - 1920 (Spanish flu epidemic), Pittsburgh.
Her Parents (the Browns) owned the "junkyard" or scrap metal yard in Pittsburgh.

His Father's name: Samuel b?
d. 1918 - 1920 (Spanish flu epidemic), Pittsburgh.
My Grand Father Samuel had several siblings the names I am not very sure of.
Harry
Sarah last known, Pittsburgh.
Sadie/Sophie (owned a millenary store in/near Pittsburgh, had one child, female, married name could have been Clark, maybe moved to California with my dad.

Some Friedman ancestor was supposedly a Colonial in the Russian Army. However, there is a story that our original surname was Kachinski/ Chakinski (many ways to spell) and was changed to Friedman upon immigration to the U.S., at Ellis Island, New York.
Our family may have been from somewhere near Bialystok, Russia (now Poland).

I have no idea if there are any living relatives on my Dad's side. My older brothers did meet our aunt Sarah Friedman once around 1963 when they visited her in Pittsburgh.

One interesting note: My father's first/second cousin is the comedian Marty Allen, who now lives in Las Vegas. I don’t know if it is his real name.

Please if you could help me direct my efforts or if any of these people sound familiar to you I would love to know. I have been searching for many years.

Thank you
Ellen Terry Friedman
