resolve a place name to one that is already used by many events you
effectively merge the two places - getting out of this mess is a lot of work
as the 'fix' you describe would switch over all of the place names you

That is one place I agree. I was working on our Canadian family yesterday
and had one man who was born, raised, married and died in the same house,
however, from the images of these events, that same house was in 3 different
counties and 2 different townships during that time period. So if I said yes
when prompted, the information would be change to read according to modern
locations from what I am understanding and the info for some of the events would
then be wrong.
