You can use IrfanView to add captions to your photos. It's a free download.

Several of the photo editors can do it. I have been
using the one that comes with MS Office 2003. It is
fairly basic but does a good job of croping and
resizing images. If you have Office it is included and
is free and is possibly already installed under Office
look at Accessories and open Microsoft Office Picture
Manager. I do not know if Open Office also includes a
similar feature but one of the users here should know.
In MS Picture Manager choose edit then choose resize
and fill in the blanks.
Beautiful!!! It works wonders! I was able to rotate all the photos that
were 90degrees off with no message telling me I was going to loose or mess
up
pics and then for the ones I needed to reduce all I had to do was click on
the
button saying I wanted them reduced for web pages and the rest was
automatic. Plus these scans had been made at Kinko's had had the
surounding platform
showing. I could use the crop handles and end up cropping off the
platform,
plus crop them so that pics I had scanned slightly off kilter were squared
up
again. The only thing I didn't find was a way to add id info either in a
small dialog box at the bottom of the pic or onto the pic itself. I have
been
going thru all my pics the last few hours and getting them set up much
better
than they were. Now if I could just id them for whoever sees them it would
be really wonderful.
Thanks for that info Bill. It was a godsend. You can see the results of
what I did with a scan of 8x10 photos that were several mg and needed to be
250k or less here:
