You should never try and alter (correct) the original data

You transcribe *as found*

The census lists a family as enumerated *not* as you know it to be through research

If Fred SMITH is enumerated as Fritz the CAT you should transcribe Fritz the CAT

You might add a note to say why its not and show why he is really Fred SMITH but you do not alter
the original

With Ancestry you can add a variation which you might do but you should never try and alter whats
recorded in the document
