Subject: [FTM] FTM vs Sierra Generations 8 for beginners

I am a beginner at genealogy as I just started one year ago. At that time my
software source did not have FTM in stock hence I bought Sierra's
Generations 8 Genealogy for beginners. I am wondering about changing to
whatever is the better program and if data can be moved from one system to
another. I do not relish retyping over 1000 names with all data for each
over again to a new program.
Feedback would be appreciated
