If you use merge specific people, you don't have to worry about the
information being identical. I use this feature all the time, and find it
much more helpful than a general merge. You then do need to go to the facts
section and either delete the duplicate information or make sure that you
check the information that you want to use as primary and show on your pages
and charts.
