We've been having the same discussion in our syndicate as the cost of
obtaining hard copies is beginning to mount. Using fiche is cheaper if you
can get hold of an old fiche reader...I understand many are being sold as
surplus, but I don't know what the cost is now. I know my wife will be
ecstatic if I try to cram a fiche reader into my home office :), but that's
a different issue.

What about the scanning technology and cost. We know they have a scanner is
west London, but it is apparently fully utilized. Does anyone have an idea
of costs etc. of new ones, so that one or more syndicates might collaborate
on buying/leasing one. I know regular scanners are coming down in price but
have any been tested? At 50 cents a page (what I have to pay too), the FHC
are getting rich, but it is getting too much. This is going to be a severe
long term problem for a lot of transcribers.

Any thoughts?

Bruce

I can supply a fiche but not for the bit that you're doing.

Marriages 1871 to 1880 I have.

Are you interested?

If so send a private e-mail with address etc & I'll send one.

Regards
