Hi Jill
Wow, what a pickle you've got yourself in.
Have a look at the John Slann Academy of Transcribing Site
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.ph/beg.htm
it may help solve some of your problems. Ignore the syndicate specific instructions.

Assuming you are/were using WinBMD the program to open is
C:\Program Files\WinBMD\WinBMD.exe not Free-BMD.
The above site tells you how to create a desk top icon that makes life a lot easier.

Your previously transcribed data should be in a file with a .BMD extension. If you do SEARCH for BMD it should locate your file. It should be in C:\Program Files\WinBMD\Output
Sorry if this is a bit complicated but c'est la vie.
good luck
Bob Phillips

I've been a sitting duck for 2-3 weeks now making no progress with
transcriptions.
I received a package in the mail in April and signed in at the Free-BMD
site. I successfully downloaded the files and noted where I saved them
(WIN-BMD). I started transcribing, and completed a whole column (without
uploading) before having to take a break due to some work (real life)
opportunities. Now that I'm ready to come back to resume transcribing, I
can't access any of my work. I can find the folder with the Win-BMD
information, but can't open the program I was working from. I searched
location of the files using Explorer, and tried opening everything in the
folder without any luck. I can go to my start menu and perform the
Start-Run-Free-BMD sequence, but once it starts running I get a pop-up
message stating "Run Time Error '68' Device unavailable"

I'm really confused and especially bummed that I lost a few hours work. I
leave on holidays in a week for 2-weeks and so feel I've been no help to
anyone here.

Any ideas?
