Irfanview does not, by default, take over all your picture files during
installation. Only if you select during installation that you wish to
associate your various image files with it - otherwise it installs with no
associations.

To fix your current situation you can either do as others have indicated:

Right click on an image file, Select 'Open with >', Select 'Choose
program...', Select or Browse for your preferred program and check the
'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. Note: If you
simply select one of the programs presented above the 'Choose program...'
option you will not change the association with Irfanview and the next time
you select a file of this type Irfanview will still open it.

Or...

Possibly quicker if you have a preferred program to handle all your image
files is to check the 'Options' or 'Preferences' settings of that program.
They usually have a collection of check boxes you can set or clear to
associate/disassociate extensions with that program.

Or...

In Irfanview select 'Options' from the menu, Select 'Set file
associations...' and select the 'Clear All' button. With luck Irfanview will
hand back the associations to the program you desire. If not... See above.
