Hi David
If you are absolutely sure the forename is identical to the one previous although with different initials, you can press the 0 (number) key and this will automatically give you the previous forename without initials, including the space to type initials required. Ditto for Surname where you have for example the name Simm and the next one is Simms, press the 0 key and you only have to type an s to turn Simm into Simms. It saves keying especially when you have say Turner followed by Turner-Smythe etc, again press 0 key you have Turner and then add the hyphen and Smythe. There is no automatic space when you use this method for the surname, so you do not have to back space to complete the name. Hope this makes sense.
Happy transcribing.

cheers for that Sas,
first time I've seen the twys'ist reference. My personal feeling is that the
auto space should be deleted. It is far simpler to simply use the space bar
rather than to take a time-out to note whether you need to use the
back-space or not. The only time I need the back-space is when I copy a
Forename from the line above but with the added Initials wrong and I simply
correct the Initials. Something you do automatically and not have to give it
much thought.
If more people were called Smith John.T life would be easy

I am currently having this dilemma (transcribing 1919 births), as I am a
strict twys'ist believer - I take the time to backspace on each one and
force the correction. I will be very interested to see what the outcome from
the hierarchy is on this one.

TWYS Type What You See
I am doing Marriages
Forename entry automatically enters a space after the Forename. Probably
quite Logical.
If a Forename is followed by an Initial and a DOT, it is also followed
automatically with a space. Not so Logical.
because if there are 2 initials then TWYS does not want a space.
Therefore I have to delete the space before I enter the second initial.
To save me time is it therefore acceptable for me to enter the second
initial without deleting the extra space.
This would not be TWYS but is it OK ?
The software should either omit the auto space or we should allow the extra
space under these circumstances.
Don't tell me. There is a menu somewhere that allows that to happen ??
You may gather by the time, that I Hoot with the Owls and rarely Soar with
the Eagles !!
Please don't mention the fact that we do have a bird called the Eagle Owl.
Perhaps I should change my Submitter ID.
Happy Scribing.
