Thanks for the reply, Paul. Yes, I do tinker in Photoshop to improve the
scans as much as I can. The problem is not that they're faded, more the
opposite -- the typing is very dark and the letters filled in, making it
very hard to tell sometimes what the character should be. Seems that the
1918 births must have been done on a particularly mucky typewriter!
