I used to have a counter through http://www.thecounter.com and it *did*
allow the user to set it up so that it would not count him/her. It worked by
using cookies, though, and you had to add an extra element to the counter's
tag. I think I saw that RootsWeb's counters service is handled by somebody
else, not RootsWeb. You might want to check into that... go to the website
of the service who handles the counters. Possibly even e-mail them about it.

So you could get a counter through http://www.thecounter.com but they have
been changing their servers lately, and they aren't working too well. I
switched my FreePages site counter to the one provided by RootsWeb just
because I didn't want to have all of my "goodies" scattered around the web.

Just thought I'd throw my bit in!
