Specifically, be aware that one ISP that will definitely choke on this is
AOL/Compuserve.....that's a lot of people.

You can use:
<.a href="mailto:?subject=xxxxx">

HOWEVER, not all browsers will recognize this, and some may choke on it, so
it is not recommended.
