You can use a paint or other image program to do "reverse-cropping"
(there's probably a technical term for that) to make the picture big
enough that no one can see the tiling.

Or you can use advanced CSS to prevent the image from tiling--but you
might find that a little more difficult than tables. I know I haven't
mastered that, but there was a nice functional example of it posted
recently on the list. By, uh, .... Ken McInnes, I think?
