Hi Stella,
I have a couple of ideas regarding navigation on your website that you might
want to consider. With 500 pages, you surely don't want to have a list of
500 page numbers on a page, so how to get from one page to another?

Idea #1: Have and "Previous page" and a "Next page" link on each page.

Idea #2: For your index pages, instead of having scanned images, transcribe
the pages and have the page numbers be links to the pages rather than just a
list of page numbers.

Idea #3: Have a limited number of "entry points", say into sections of the
text. Then each of those pages could have links to pages within that
section.

Idea #4: Have your pages "interactive", by creating a small "form" where a
user enters a particular page number, and the desired page opens in their
browser. A short JavaScript function would make this work by writing a line
of code that is the link to the desired page. If you like this idea but need
help, email me and I'll write out the code for you.

Diane
