:Chris...... what a truly GREAT program it is! I LOVE it! I, too,

:this is MUCH better for my needs. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!
Your enthusiasm is more than thanks enough! :-)
A couple of thoughts after using the program for a few hours:
-- When updating a picture's caption or file information, you must
click the Checkmark icon to save the change. I still haven't figured
out what the X icon represents, since the Minus sign icon is the
Delete key.
-- I have about 1400 images I want to ultimately catalogue in a
permanent way. A number of these were rendered into GIFs in recent
months for my web site, and thus can't be entered in Archimage. A
larger number were saved as compressed TIFs and also are ineligible.
So I'm thinking of taking half a day to convert each of the
recalcitrant files into a "master" TIF (uncompressed) or BMP file
which could then be properly entered and relocated at a later time.
That way I could *always* find the original, from which (using
IrfanView) I can in seconds make a copy/conversion to whatever format
is needed (like JPG or GIF for the Web). Perhaps I'll do that today,
since you've prompted me with your response.
Finally, with the database, I think my days of storing images in
multiple folders in order to be able to refind them are over. I'm
going to dump all images into one common folder and rely on Archimage
to find subjects by name and so on. This will also allow me to open
the common folder and, using IrfanView, generate thumbnails for a
visual search in seconds.
If IrfanView is new to you, it's a must-have piece of freeware and
one of the most popular downloads on the Net.
It's a joy to find a piece of software that works as *we* do, rather
than having to adapt our work to fit our software. :-) Thanks for
writing.
