The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that facts can not be copyrighted and are
"free for the taking".
However, genealogy research often crosses national boundaries, and Courts
in some other countries have taken a more restrictive approach. Non-U.S.
publications are subject to the laws of the country in which the book/data
was published.
