There are two ways to get your pages onto search engines
1 Tell the search engines that you are there. Here are a few URLs where you
can do so:
http://www.google.com/addurl.html
http://www.alltheweb.com/help/webmaster/submit_site.html
http://dmoz.org/add.html
2 Get your site linked to from other sites which are already spidered by the
main search engines. Use the search engines to look for sites similar to
yours e.g. Bridges family history, New Brunswick local sites etc. Write to
the Webmaster giving reasons why it would be a good idea for him/her to link
from his/her site to yours (and, of course, offering a link back)
Rootsweb, itself is one of the most popular places on the web where you can
put up links to your site. Go to:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~websites/
It can take up to eight weeks for your site to hit the main search engines
after submission, so don't expect to see links straight away.
