All you can do is stack them, because the amount of scrip or html code is different.
It is not any thing you are doing.

I have tried them by themselves on a separate page and the shift does
not happen. Something on the page interferes with valign="middle". As
that did no good, the attribute is now removed.

Thinking it might be that single page, I tried inserting the same
arrangement at

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westroot/woodhull/index.html

but the results were the same.

Can someone see something I've missed?
