Barbara, do you have any spaces in your file names? Spaces are not allowed. Rename them to Smith_pix.jpg, or Smith-pix.jpg, or SmithPix.jpg. Smith pix.jpg will give the error message you mention.

Don't forget to correct the links to the images in your pages. The link name must match EXACTLY to the file name (including case).
